Meet Joe

JOE “J” ERVIN, JR.
OWNER / SENIOR TRAINER

Joe is the Owner of Tri Phase Total Fitness (TPTF) and serves as its Senior Trainer and Chief Operational Officer (COO).
Before creating TPTF in August of 2017, Joe trained at several facilities to include LA Fitness in Atlanta Georgia from 2015-2016 and was responsible for the physical, mental, and nutritional health of more than twenty-five clients over a 17-month period. It was during this period that the foundation and strategic concept of TPTF were being developed. The “client based” fitness concept and broad base fitness regiments were tested and approved for use with clients with greater results within a shorter time period. Therefore, saving the clients’ money and time as it related to obtaining their fitness goals.

Looking for help to corral, catalogue, market, and eventually present to potential clients a product that can tremendously help with their fitness goals, Joe turned toward his former employer for help, the United States Army. This decision put Joe in contact with a program called “Entrepreneurial Bootcamp for Vets” (EPV), and in 2017 landed him at the University of Connecticut (UCONN). With the help of the program’s impressive leadership, mentors, and supporters; Joe was able to fully develop his new fitness idea along with developing a strategy to launch the program. With their help it allowed Joe to focus on developing course material and a marketing strategy. Due to his plan design and business model, Joe was awarded the “Rob and Barbara Hughes Most Innovative Venture Award,” the “Laurie Hughes Award,” and a cash award for business startup. Prior to developing TPTF, Joe served in the United States Army for 30 years. It was during this time Joe saw firsthand how being in top physical condition can help with physical and mental stability, and vice versa. After running in a few marathons and participation in fitness competitions (1st place in the military triathlon in New Olm, Germany), Joe decided to help soldiers who were having trouble passing the fitness test. He developed a program that had a 97% success rate. For his work, Joe was allowed to attend the US Army Master Fitness Course and was certified in 1988, his duties included company fitness plan designer, weight management, company nutritional advisor to the commander, and mental health planning coordinator (meditation/rest and relaxation support). To this day, Joe continues to use programs from this certification in the everyday function of Tri Phase Total Fitness. Joe earned a Master’s from American University, Bachelors from Auburn University.
